The St. George Scouts contribute a diverse range of musical and performance styles to our church events, adding vibrancy and excitement to celebrations throughout the year, including Easter, Cross Day, and Christmas.
Beyond rehearsals and performances, St. George Scouts offers a wide range of fun and engaging activities throughout the year. Whether it's exploring nature at summer camp, competing in sports, or enjoying movie nights and sleepovers, there's something for everyone!
Scouts, officially founded in 1908 by British Lieutenant General Robert Baden-Powell, empowers young people globally through adventure, service, and personal growth. The Syriac Scout Movement is long-established and has supported the work and teachings of our Syriac Orthodox Church for many years. This strong connection has led to the widespread presence of Syriac Scout institutions wherever Syriac communities exist.
The World Syriac Scout was founded in the year 2000 and it derives its principles from: the principles of the World Scout Movement and the teachings of the Syriac Orthodox Church. St. George Scouts in San Fernando, CA was established on on January 15th, 2017, by dedicated volunteers and Scouts from Syria, aimed to bring the rich tradition of Scouting to their new community. Their vision was to create a space for young people to develop leadership, embrace their heritage, and serve others.
The trumpet, a long, coiled metal tube with three valves, and the trombone, a similar tube with a sliding mechanism instead of valves, are the primary brass instruments in a marching band. These instruments use your breath and lip vibrations to create a wide variety of sounds, from clear, high notes to deep, resonant tones. They often play the melody or harmony, adding depth and color to the band's sound.
The snare drum, a cylindrical drum with metal wires stretched across its bottom head, and the bass drum, a large drum played with a mallet, provide the rhythmic foundation for the marching band. These instruments keep the beat steady, adding energy and excitement to the music. They also provide accents and dramatic flourishes, enhancing the overall performance.
